Valley Spur Volunteering
On 27-Jan-2002, my son Jeff and I volunteered for a three-hour stretch at the Valley Spur ski lodge. Our job was to collect money from skiers, get them to sign in, keep the fire going, advise on trail choices and conditions, and so forth. Jeff just had a grand time. He was thrilled to have a job that he could do himself, and actually got quite good at collecting money, putting into the till, and making change. And he got to wear that cool, green, U.S. Forest Service volunteer badge too. He seems to like working the desk more than he likes skiing.
