Munising is a city of some 3000 people located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula on the shore of Lake Superior. The city is well-placed for those accessing recreational opportunities in the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and the Hiawatha National Forest, including the Grand Island National Recreation Area.

Scuba divers can explore shipwrecks in the Alger Underwater Preserve. Mountain-bikers are a short drive from Marquette and some of the best trails in the midwest. Backpackers and hikers enjoy the Pictured Rocks and the North Country Trail. Winter brings access to snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Also notable are an annual dog-sled race and a yearly ice-climbing festival.
