Mountain Biking with Andrew
by Jonathan Gennick, 26 June, 2004
There's some excellent mountain biking to be had in the hills south and
west of Munising. One loop I enjoy is to climb the steep
hill going west that is St. Martin's Hill Road, catch the snowmobile trails, and follow
them south, then east, and then north to come out near the Citgo gas-station
on the east end of Varnum Street. It's a great ride, with some fun downhills.
Andrew Sears starting down the first big downhill. The trail is sandy
here, and sometimes washed out. Things get "interesting" after that first
curve.
It's not all hilly.
Come August, this area is loaded with raspberries. And
I mean the kind that you eat!
It's amazing how fast a bit of sand will bring you
to a grinding halt.
Here you have Andrew coming out of a
long, downhill run.
Here's Andrew muscling through some mud.
A typical mudhole on the southern portion of the loop.
Andrew's walking around this one.
Andrew and I lucked on to this Porcupine,
but he didn't want to visit with us. He ran up a tree instead.
